Gooderstone, Norfolk

Client Brief

Inspired by John’s love of nature and swimming in rivers and Elise’s fond memories of lake swimming in her native home of Holland, they immediately saw the appeal of a swimming pond. The motivation for having natural water in the garden was further strengthened by the fact that they have a 5 year old daughter who already has a love of water. The brief was to achieve a swimming area of at least 40m and to have good access from the house.

The Design

French doors were installed in the breakfast room to create the transition from inside the home to the pool via a natural stone paving path leading onto a green oak deck. A 1.5m yew hedge was planted to enclose the area and screen it from the road.

In addition the area surrounding the swimming pond is softened by mixed planting of shrubs and perennials. A swimming area of 45m has been achieved with a regeneration zone of just under 40m.
